How long will you wait before you do that thing you’ve been putting off?

It‘s an ordinary Saturday afternoon in a pandemic, but in less than 5 minutes the course of my life changed. Forever.

Have you ever had things you wanted to try in life, and you do the research, buy the courses, read the books, watch the videos, practice, talk to people doing it, and you tell your friends:

“I’M FINALLY GONNA DO IT PEOPLE!”

And of course they‘re cheering you on — but… you never get off the starting blocks. You don‘t successfully transition from idea to action, so you can begin doing that thing. Instead, you do nothing.

Well, not completely nothing.

You keep reading, you keep buying the books (oh, the books!) and you keep watching other people doing it well, until you are drowning in a sea of untapped inspiration telling yourself that one day, you will be ready.

And all this — alllllll thissssss — against the backdrop of the universe taking the opportunity to remind you at every turn: “UMM HEY YOU — I THINK THIS IS ONE OF YOUR THINGS THAT YOU NEED TO DO”.

Are You Fixin‘ To Get Ready?

Like I do most weekends (since the pandemic began) I like to listen to podcasts on psychology, what others have learned in life and inspirational stuff . Today was no different.

Except, Spotify made a suggestion to listen to a podcast episode by self proclaimed ‘Chief Motivating Officer‘ Scott Smith called: “Stop Fixin‘ To Get Ready”.

5 mins into the Podcast I realised. This is exactly what I have been doing for over a year. I had been metaphorically getting ready, to get ready.

Answering Your Calling

And no, the pandemic doesn‘t count. This isn‘t about FOMO, or chasing shiny new hobbies to to get through these trying times, or distract from the isolation of living alone while we all shelter in place.

This was my calling to write using life experiences and lessons learned to date.

You can only do so much preparation before you need to take action

I‘d been preparing, reflecting and procrastinating to the point where it‘s no longer making the eventual outcome any more successful than if I just TAKE ACTION to take the step towards my purpose.

So that‘s what I‘m doing, taking action by writing, and a whole host of other things I‘ve thought up to help lift up and inspire others on my journey.

So I ask you.

How long will you wait before you do that thing you‘ve been putting off? I‘m starting today.
